Revelation 21 and Ezekiel 48 reveal God's promise of the New Jerusalem, a magnificent city where His people will live with Him forever.

God Himself will be with them and be their God.
Revelation 21:3

Have you ever stopped to think about where God is taking you? Not just where you will be next year, or what you are hoping to accomplish in this life. I am talking about the future God has prepared for His people.

Let me tell you something. Your future is greater than you can imagine. God has shown us something about that future in His Word, and I want you to see it. Because when you understand where you are going, you begin to understand just how great your God really is.

What Is the New Jerusalem in the Bible?

The New Jerusalem is the magnificent holy city God has prepared for His people, where He Himself will dwell with them.

In Ezekiel 48:35, God reveals a city with a remarkable name: "The Lord Is There." That is Jehovah Shammah. I want you to understand what God is saying. He is not simply describing a place. He is declaring His presence in that place.

When you read Ezekiel 48:30, you begin to see the size of what God is revealing. The city has twelve gates, named after the twelve tribes of Israel. Each side stretches across an enormous distance.

Now look at Revelation 21:12. John describes the New Jerusalem with twelve gates and twelve angels. The names of the twelve tribes of Israel are written on those gates.

Do you see the connection? God showed Ezekiel something about the city, and John gives us another picture of that glorious future.

This is not something small. This is what God is preparing for you.

How Big Is the New Jerusalem According to Revelation 21?

The New Jerusalem is an enormous city whose length, width, and height are equal, revealing a greatness beyond anything we have built on earth.

In Revelation 21:16, John describes the city as being laid out in a square. Its dimensions are so great that the New Living Translation describes its length as approximately 1,400 miles.

Now, think about that. Fourteen hundred miles! We are talking about a city whose height stretches farther than our minds can easily comprehend.

I want you to understand the greatness of God. We look at our houses, our neighborhoods, and our cities, and we think we have seen something wonderful. But look at what God has prepared.

The Bible tells us in Revelation 21:14 that the city's wall has twelve foundations bearing the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

Then Revelation 21:21 describes twelve gates made of pearls and streets of pure gold, like transparent glass. Think about that. We pay so much money for a little piece of gold or a precious stone here on earth.

But in the New Jerusalem, the streets themselves are made of gold.

Come on, somebody. That is where we are going! That is the greatness of our God.

Will God Live With His People in the New Jerusalem?

Yes, God promises that He Himself will dwell with His people in the New Jerusalem.

Listen to Revelation 21:3. John hears a loud voice from heaven declaring that God's dwelling place is with humanity. God will live among His people, and they will belong to Him.

This is Jehovah Shammah. The Lord is there.

Can you imagine that? The God who created the heavens and the earth, who placed the stars and planets into space, says He will dwell with you.

Sometimes we make God too small in our thinking. We compare Him with ourselves or with somebody we know. But you cannot compare God with anybody. God must be God!

When I look at this promise, I see something that should change how we think about our future. God has not forgotten His people. He has prepared a place where His presence will be with them.

And remember, God is with us right now. He promised never to leave us or forsake us. The same God who walks with us today is the God who has prepared our future.

How Should the Promise of the New Jerusalem Change Our Lives?

The promise of the New Jerusalem should help us trust God's greatness, focus on Him, and share the gospel with others.

Let me ask you something. If God is preparing a city this magnificent, why do we keep thinking of Him as though He can only do small things?

I want you to start seeing God differently. Look at what He has created. Look at what He has promised. Look at where He is taking you.

And there is something else I want you to understand. We cannot keep this good news to ourselves.

When you know where you are going, you should want other people to come with you. That is why we must not be ashamed to share the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Our future is not simply about precious stones, enormous buildings, or streets of gold. The greatest promise is that God Himself will be there.

Mark that down. Jehovah Shammah means the Lord is there.

So when you think about tomorrow, when you consider what God has prepared, remember this: your God is greater than anything you can imagine.

And where you are going, God is there.
